Samsung announces S23 Ultra with 200 megapixel camera sensor

Must read

S23 Ultra – Samsung has announced its new top phones for 2023. It concerns three devices: the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 + and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The devices are less innovative than the S22 series. Most striking is the 200 megapixel sensor in the camera of the S23 Ultra.

S23 Ultra

Last year, Samsung merged the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series into the S22 Ultra. It existed alongside a normal S22 and S22+ and was aimed at large users. And this new series also has two target groups. The regular S23 and S23+ are aimed at young people who spend a lot of time on social media, the S23 Ultra focuses on a more business target group.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is the largest device in the series. It has a 6.8-inch screen that supports a refresh rate of up to 120 frames per second. As a result, the image must look smooth and without hitches.

The screen in this phone slopes slightly in the edges, but Samsung has made the display flatter than on the S22 Ultra.

Large 200 megapixel sensor for larger, more detailed photos

On the back, the phone has four camera lenses. It concerns a wide-angle lens (12 megapixel), a standard lens (200 megapixel) and two zoom lenses (10 megapixel) for zooming in three and ten times without loss of quality.

Striking is the 200 megapixel sensor. This allows you to take larger, more detailed photos. If you were to print them, they would be ten times the size of an A4, according to Samsung.

The sensor also captures more light, which comes in handy in dark situations. With the help of software, noise in the dark is also better polished away, Samsung promises.

To take notes, the S23 Ultra has an S Pen that you can keep in the case. The cheapest version of the S23 Ultra costs 1,399 euros. That is 50 euros more expensive than last year’s most affordable S22 Ultra.

Design of Galaxy S23 and S23+ slightly modified

The regular Galaxy S23 has a completely flat screen of 6.1 inches. The S23+ is slightly larger with a screen diagonal of 6.6 inches.

The design of these phones has been slightly modified. On the back, the camera island has disappeared. Like the Ultra, the S23 and S23+ have lenses that protrude slightly from the housing. Samsung plans to implement this design in its A-series phones later this year.

It is also striking that Samsung is moving away from its own Exynos chips in the phones this year. This means that the devices are now equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip.

The S23 costs at least 949 euros and the S23+ costs 1,199 euros. These phones are both 100 euros more expensive than their predecessors released last year.
